GTA was an amazing action game published by DMA Design in 1997. Unlike GTA III and later you played at a bird's eye view. In this video you can see the 8 bit PC demo for MS-DOS.

It's funny how this 8 bit colour depth version looks a lot better, a lot more life-like than the crappy 24bit colour depth version which has the yellow pavement and purple streets... it was the same in the PS1 version...

@darkwhitty Your post is as old as my first days on YT lol, but yeah, I'm fed up with childish comments like them slagging off the graphics on GTA 3, Medal of Honor Frontline etc. That is so playground and irritating.

There were free roaming games long before GTA. Good game though, many hours spent on this.
