A peahen was on the loose for a few days in a neighbourhood in north Edmonton. She was caught today. I wrote this tribute to her. Photos are from the Edmonton Journal's website (www.edmontonjournal.com).
There was a peahen in captivity
Until the day she wanted to be free
Rooftop to rooftop in Beaumaris hood
Evading capture as long as she could
They came with ladders, they came with nets
They came with cameras, shots they hoped to get
But still she rambled upon the snow
Her next move, nobody could know
Landed in a back yard, chase was still on
They thought they had her, but she was gone
Her wings moved swiftly through the cold air
For a plain peahen, she had such flair
Making headlines on all the news
While Animal Control had the blues
Along came two deejays who saved the day
Now at the zoo, she will likely stay
This is the story of a bird so wild
Her antics had the city so beguiled
And I really hope she doesnt have a shock
And finds true love with a bold peacock
Oh Edmonton Peahen I think you really rock

Paula! That was GREAT--and oddly moving! I almost had tears in my eyes for that bold, wild peahen who didn't want to get caught. :( Well done!
