Dead End Kids ringleader, Billy Halop, discusses (briefly) what made the Dead End Kids features "great." Halop, of course, was the Dead End Kid who had both the acting chops and the good looks to have succeeded in a "solo" career as a sensitive "John Garfield"-type tough guy (albeit one with a voice that sounded curiously like Jerry Lewis!). Co-starring with Humphrey Bogart in You Can't Get Away With Murder, it seems like Warners Bros was grooming him with such a strategy in mind, but somehow solo stardom managed to elude Billy.

  • Man i loved these guyz

  • Little Tough Guy (1938) was a great film & the first entry for Universal's Little Tough Guys series. What I liked about the film was seeing Huntz Hall play a real tough guy & gang leader for a change instead of his usual 'dumb clown' role. I don't know if Huntz played the tough guy in the other Universal films. I have the entire Universal series & he's serious & tough in the 3 serials & I'm only up to "Hit The Road". I'm still going thru the series & I hope to see him as a tough guy again.

  • That scene with Billy Halop saying: "Paper? Innocent man goes to jail..." is from "Little Tough Guy" (1938). GREAT film! He has total acting chops in it as Johnny Boylan.

  • Your intros are longer than the interviews!

  • Oh shit what did he say about Billy Halop

  • In my opinion, he was the best actor in the group and his leaving was the worst career move for any worker, period. However, I don't believe the Bowery Boys would have been as funny, had he stayed on. For one thing, there would have been too much ego clashing between he and Leo Gorcey.

  • My music teacher is Zack Halop...billy halop's nephew...

  • Billy Halop always had a very commanding presence on film, and they say he was great live in the original Broadway production of Dead End as well. He was a natural at playing a loveable thug. It was a pleasure to see him in his bit parts on All In The Family as well.
