Easily the best song on Tonight, and possibly one of the best songs ever written by anyone. Such a multi-level commentary delivered beautifully by a true artist is a real treasure.

I think it is an ironic comment about the misplaced or misdirected way Western religion has tried to dominate other cultures by "loving" them— i.e., when you don't convert to our beliefs/ way of worship, we will destroy you, basically. And all the time this is usually done against a background of economic exploitation. An odd way to "love" anyone or anything. But it happened. Can't deny that!
