Go to http://www.ianbrown.cc/blog/ for more powerful computer tips and tricks. In this video, I show you how to perform a Software Update on your Mac, which you need to do frequently.

I also added a bonus video to this video showing you how to Repair Disk Permissions, which is somethig that you need to do every time you do a Software Update or install something. Doing this will keep your computer running optimally.

Ian Brown owns and runs a mobile computer repair and tech service in Los Angeles, California, and services both Mac and PC.

  • how can you update with a standard account? because my dad doesnt want me having a admin on my own computer... =/... but we both want me to be able to update without bringing my computer to him to enter his password... any ideas??

  • @MotoCrossBoy104 Unfortunately, you need to have admin rights to install things.

  • Hey man... cool tutorial, but can you ask me a question? I saw people saying that the updated theyr mac to version 10.5.8 and they have so problems, theyr keyboard and mouse don"t work... i have version 10.5.5 and i need help, is this safe? please answere...tnx.

  • @NemesMarcus I have not heard of people having those types of problems with 10.5.8. But I would check on the mac forums to be sure. Go to macosx (dot) com, click on forums, sign up for free, and post your question. You can also search the forums there for "10.5.8 problems". Good luck!

  • Whats the differance with tiger and leopard sorry this question might be dumb but i have been using windows my hole life and thinking of buying a mac

  • The only dumb question is the one that is not asked. Leopard and Tiger are just names of the OS. So, to relate it to Windows, Leopard is like Windows XP and Tiger is like Windows 2000 (and Snow Leopard, the latest version of the Mac OS, is like Windows 7). I would definitely suggest buying a Mac, as you will no longer have to deal with Viruses or Spyware. There are none written for the Mac. ;)

  • @ianbrowncc ok, thanks very mutch, i subscribed ;)

  • Unfortunately, no. You can only update your software/Operating System to the latest version of that release. OS X 10.4 (Tiger) and OS X 10.5 (Leopard) are two different releases.

  • when you do this can you also update the software on the mac like 10.4.6 to 10.5.2
