100 miles into the Sierra Mtns in 3 minutes. Some Excellent Thunder. I went back to Kaiser Pass (Hwy 168 past Shaver, Huntington lake, etc) and opened the mail and out jumped King Strang. at Kaiser Pass! how Ironic. The temp' dropped from 102 to 62 to 50 degrees. And 100 again below 4000 feet (Strang was the Mormon King of Beaver Island and he too was murdered and the people moved away.) (E. Williams Husband built King Strang's Home)

  • love these mountain ranges.

These storms are "cool" & refreshing.

Ever get over to the Escalante stairs up to the Fish Lake national?

  • If you mean Hwy 12 thru Escalante, Boulder, etc, I go that way as often as possible. I have gone past/stopped at fish lake. I try understand Mormon Utah as being similar to Babylon, Sodom&Gomorrah, etc:: God gives really nice things to people who don't deserve it and when they prove it true then God toasts them. But it doesn't seem fair they should have Utah....

  • Nothing beats the High Sierra.

My favorite elevations are in the 5,500 - 8,500 range. Temperature drops about about 2 degrees for every 1,000 of elevation gain. Naturally, a cold front will increase that rate.

I love the conifers up there too: Sugar Pine, Big Cone Spruce, Lodgepole Pine, Ponderosa Pine, White Fir, Douglas Fir, Ceder, etc. Absolutely gorgeous, and the smells!

If you stick your nose in the crack of a Ponderosa, it's smells like sweet pineapple. At least I think its Ponderosa

  • That's it, hwy 12. Have a friend from S.L. that built a ranch house there. Haven't seen him in a while.

I find it abnormal how these small towns are ruled. Spooky in some of the very small towns. Blood atoned people wandering about?
