A rescue team from the Indonesian Navy began removing wreckage from a plane that crashed in a remote area of East Kalimantan on Monday. Four people on board the military aircraft were killed and another four were seriously injured. The plane was found in two pieces. Rescuers plan to cut the wreckage into pieces to make the removal process easier. The Nomad P837 light aircraft was on a routine patrol when it lost contact with air traffic control at around 1pm local time. In recent years there have been a series of deadly crashes in Indonesia involving commercial passenger planes and military planes. The EU lifted a two year ban on four Indonesian airlines in July 2009 after the country made significant safety improvements.
