http://wonkroom.thinkprogress.org/2009/04/23/weekly-standard-3900-lie/ Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, responds to Newt Gingrich and other Republicans claiming that global warming and clean energy policies are just giant energy taxes that will destroy the economy. Waxman cites Dr. John Reilly, the co-author of an MIT study Republicans have distorted, who explained to ClimateProgress.org that the GOP claims are a "gross exaggeration" and "just wrong."

Waxman also notes that these same predictions of economic disaster were made before the Clean Air Act came into law, but instead the economy thrived as the air and water got healthier.

  • Waxman, I hope you realize that your not getting re-elected now. Start looking for a job.

  • waxman is lying, he knows the congressional budget office put the cost at 1800 per family.

The tried to hide it by classifying the report.

people are right to be repulsed by these scamming progressives.

  • Watch the whole video without editing and then form an opinion.

  • man that video is an hour i'm high i just need john stewart to make fun of it haha

  • Nice piece of video editing! Cherry-Picking at it's best!

There is a reason why Climate Brad chose not to present the entire exchange between Gingrich and Waxman. Search out the entire video and you will see an entirely different picture.

  • I'd love for us to get an accurate estimate of the cost of Cap and Trade.

Unfortunately, they only had 1 day to look at what, a 1300 page document? 300 of which were purely bribes to get it passed in the first place.

  • March on Washington!!

  • OK, Rep. Ratface...lets hear YOU tell us how much it would cost. Notice how ratface doesn't seem to want to discuss this.

  • Don't worry, he follows this stupidity up by admitting when questioned that he doesn't know everything the scientists put in the bill HE supposedly authored. Guess that speed reader didn't go slow enough for him to understand his own bill. Good thing these guys know what's best for the America economy and the environment, right?

  • What you're not seeing is the multiple sources other than the MIT study that Newt places into the record supporting the GOP position. Amazing what you don't see, so while Waxman is correct to clarify the MIT study he horribly failed to discount the other studies that Newt used to support his stance.
