What is the "SALT" for? The sign says to add the oil to the salt for "reaction"... What reaction!?
Also, what material would last longer for the wick? A candle wick is sized for the candle's burn time (diameter), but the amount of oil in the glass will last longer, burning out the wick before consuming the oil. (Maybe fiberglass or asbestos?)
So you destroyed a candle to make another? Just put a toothpick in your salt with a little cotton wrapped around it. Use the other candle for a second light.
