@coyotedelosmuertos - You sound silly saying this is "really motion capture" and the next sentence saying the this did not capture motion. Honestly that is exactly what this is and you contradict yourself. This is not a movie camera but a series of cameras that did capture motion.
Amazing how the bad position of the rider so dramatically causes the horse to hollow out his back and lose any sense of a proper arch. Helps me remember to always be supportive of the horse.
Yes... This was indeed a cluster of still images merged... For in those days there were no facilities invented for capturing motion... This is 1878 if I remember correctly... How great those people were, who thought of this technique to record something which appears as moving... They were the pioneers! Nostalgic...
@spideymikey6 Not really. Its just a series of pictures put together. All separate at first, but then merged. In a sense, thats what all movies are, but really its motion capture. The man who made this did NOT capture motion, but instead captured a still life of something. So this is more like the first slide shows.
Film has not advanced from this. We still use frames, scenes, and clips. Only today each frame is taken at extremely fast speeds. That is why I always like to see something with my own eyes.
Great job putting the video together! We take motion pictures and stuff for granted because they've kinda always been around, but I can imagine how people must have felt seeing pictures actually appear to move... I wish somebody would discover a never-before-seen "film" of Lincoln! =)

They're pretty famous images, yu can find them all over the net, or find some books on him at the library. Popular with animation theory.
