  • @talkfan Oshiro Sensei does a completely different style... it's called Yamani Ryu. It's truly a smooth flowing style as opposed to more hard styles of bojutsu like Matayoshi or Taira Shinken

  • yo my man,

your kata ends about 25 feet from where it begins! I think you need to re-think your steps and polish your technique as well because it's a bit sloppy, with all due respect. Keep in mind that all kata have the same three things in common: 1) they all begin with a defensive technique, they all have at least two kia or kill points in them, and 3) they all begin and end in the same spot. Good luck.

  • the name is shushi, not sushi. anyway this guy sucks. he steps toe first on almost every move. stepping toe first is a white belt mistake. you must step heel first.

  • well, i think this gyu is not that bad as commented here, but the style is unfamiliar and different from the style we train ( Sensei Inoue), for e.g. jodan uchi is hit above right shoulder , not above the head. it makes for me the whole kata look sloppy, which it isn't in fact, he is doing fine with most of the movements.

  • I'm no master and I won't to pretend to be. Thus, I'm not going to comment on posture, style, etc. as I'd likely be wrong. I'm just going to mention as an observation that the Sushi No Kun Sho I was taught looks a LOT different. I've been told that the bow in Sushi should not have the bo behind the shoulder, and even the directions are reverse. Where this person moves to 9 o'clock, I've been told to move to 3 o'clock. I wonder why the difference...

  • Well, you're handling bo like a girl, judging by what you uploaded. The talk about 'first learn to attack' is bull, and what I see from what you uploaded, you would start to wheep & apologize the moment you would face this guy in a real fight.

  • ...in Germany, you can buy black belts in sports department stores for less than 10 USD. After practising Okinawa Kobudo for almost 10 years, I never saw a Shushi No Kon like this one. If this guys would ever have to fight, his techniques would never be more than showing a pose. He'd be beaten off in seconds...at least he believes in himself :-(

  • this is trash....way too stiff. The guy loses his center with every movement. Oshiro Toshihiro is someone worth watching for true skills in Okinwana Bojutsu

  • There is a huge problem with this right from the start.

In traditional practices of Kobudo, the bo staff is NOT allowed to touch the ground. I was disqualified in a traditional USAKF tournament in Ohio for planting the bo in the ground for a kick that is in our bo kata. I did not learn until later that it was added for open tournament purposes.

  • posture is nothing... where is the free flow... meaning you could never use this in a real fight it might help in defence but you must learn how to attack before you can defend... i would fight your whole school if they were to practice form like this.. their is no free flow motion. lacking skill
