Robert Foster - Countertenor

This is me, singing the Atlo - Aria "O thou that tellest good Tidings to Zion" from Händel´s Messiah. I really hope you like it, and I hope you´ll excuse the few mistakes I made. It was only a rehearsal and I´m still a student.

  • Ok... How bout breathing during the runs? I don't think I can get all the way through the glory part without breathing lol

  • Well.... Acctually you have to do it without taking a breath. But it shouldn´t be a big problem.... you dont have to take a deep breath to do it... just take a regular breath, and conzentrate on the air... keep as much as possible and don´t open you mouth too wide. It should work.... work with the muscles in your belly, not in you chest...!!!

P.S. Look at Diana Damraus "O zittre nicht"-coloratura. It looks like she is singing it, with a closed mouth. that´s the right way to keep the air

  • This is a very good recording :) I'm actually singing this song for solo ensemble at my school, do you have any advice?

  • Thanks... ;)

Advice? Well, I´m nut sure... What I´m doing while singing this is looking out the window into the sky. I don´t know why, but I think it helps me to get the right feeling. And of course you have to be as clear as possilbe on the coloratura-parts. Not much, but that´s all I can say... ;)

Maybe you should add a little cadenza at the end...

  • I love this song! Don't really know why =P But I like it. And I'm singing it right now during my song lessons at school! :) This vid really helped me practice =D

  • Thank you very much for your kind comment. It felt good to hear that you acctually liked it, cause I´m not really happy with this recording...

May I ask how this video helped?

  • Robert, you have a wonderful voice, and you did a great job; (better than mine for sure) never mind the minute imperfections. Professionals do some of these to. Although I do find the piano playing a little choppy and not befitting of the style. but YOU get 5 *, young man!

  • I had problems with the breathing first too, but as long as I remember to breathe in before I start on the glory-part,it's alright. My problem is that I forget the whole breathing, and then I suddenly remember that I haven't got any air left xD

  • Ok, thank you so much!

  • I think it's good :)

Well, I needed to hear how it was supposed to be, because I'd never heard it before, and didn't know how to sing it... Hehe. Now I know :)
