PubCon Dallas Josh Gampel SEM Hiring Interview

During the recent PubCon Dallas search and social media conference Josh Gampel, vice president at online marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) job search firm Onward Search, spoke with Vanessa Zamora. Gampel shared some of his thoughts about what qualities can make a job candidate stand out, including good peer communication skills and strong analytical abilities, along with the importance of using a combination of right and left brain functions. The interview also featured Gampel speaking on the importance of asking open ended questions when hiring, examining a job candidate's thought processes focused on the reasons why job seekers performed tasks in previous positions, and what results they subsequently got from them. Gampel told Zamora some of the methods firms can use to make good decisions when hiring their first SEO workers, by using a litmus test style approach to work history information gathering. Gampel shared with Zamora several tips for finding out whether a potential Internet marketing or SEO job candidate may be a good fit for a company. Gampel also spoke about the growing job demand for SEO workers, especially among Fortune 500 firms, changes in paid search, and the increased importance social media and mobile marketing should take on at most companies.
