I was born and bred in the US Conservative Movement and have been active in the Israeli Masorti Movement for 20 years. I am very proud of our community and everything we have accomplished and continued to do. It was because of the traditional home I grew up in and the learning and encouragement I received in the Conservative Movement that I became Shomer Shabbat. My friends feel the same way. I invite everyone to come and check us out for yourself instead of basing opinions on what others say.

why do we let the current haredim take over the spot as being the "only" orthodox jews? shouldnt we regular but no less religious jews take a stand and take orthodoxy back from the arrogant haredim? they wear hats and clothing that are from russia and are the reason arabs claim jews dont belong in our land, eretz israel. those men are not better than us and people need to stop seeking "masorti" and claim rights to being orthodox.

I have a question as a jew who converted into a conservative movement If I decide to make aliyah, and find a masorti community in Israel with my jewish conversion certificate will my conservative conversion in the masorti community in Israel be recognized?

I find it sad that Jewish people are so obsessed with inter-marriage. There's no other way to explain it other than outright racial contempt for the Goyim and a perceived need for racial isolation, much as Hitler felt for his people.... You guys have learned *nothing* from the past.

@Scruitol Very true, very true indeed.

Conservative judaism must move a bit further to to the right so we can stop the ultra Orthodox "religous police" hijacking Eretz Yisroel. Although Orthodox Judaism is quite beautiful they have become like Saudi clerics in their zeal to turn Israel into a state where everyone is their way or no way. I believe changes such as Shabbos observance even if not Shomer Shabbos. All male minyan. Encouraging men to wear Kippot, Tzizit and encourage all people to partake of Torah in their everyday life.

I believe that the Conservative / Masorti movement must go just a slight further over to the right for it to be fully legitimite. I believe that if only certain things such as ; Male Minyan, more hallachally based traditions such as encouraging but never forcing men to wear a kippa, Tzizit, and encouraging more people to be more observant of the Shabbos even if not they are 100% shomer Shabbat. These are just my views. I say this because this movement is the perfect meduim.

I do believe that is changing in Israel, anyway. The Rabbanut is losing its monopoly on all things personal (marriage and divorce at least).
I don't need to call myself Orthodox to consider myself a good Jew. I don't need to call myself religious at all. Judaism is much more than a just a religion. Orthodox, Massorti, Reform, secular, Ashkenazi, Sephardi - all are legitimate and all have a part to play.

Unfortunately, carping like this is an inherent *human* trait.

Religiously, I feel more connected to the Conservative Movement; but socially, I am very conservative: against gay marriage.

I wish a Conservative Beit Knesset would be established where I live in Israel!
Conservative Judaism is a lie because "I grew conservative in the US... Most of my Jewish friends are intermarried."
Guess what! Many of those friends probably had observant (read: Orthodox) grandparents. Shall we therefore conclude that Orthodoxy is a failure?
Like so many talkbacks relating to non-Orthodox movements, David Jasse attacks.
Try finding the good in other Jews and in other people. There are many faces to the Torah and "Both these and these are the words of the living God."
