In the ambrosian rite, this is the way of doing it, distinct from Roman, Byzantine, Mozarabic, anyone of them has its own way of incensing.

I have seen the same "Around the World" at two Anglo-Catholic churches in Brisbane, Australia, during the entrance procession. An American friend refers to this action as "The Queen Anne" move.

About the altar: The glass blocks do not make the altar, but protect the golden altar built at the end on the eleventh century. As it is built with gold on the front and silver on the other three sides, you certainly agree that it is wise to protect it (at least from skaters)

To lilrckchrmstr and weedancer. Please, if you do not know, either ask or document yourself. As I outlined in the presentation comment, this is related to a celebration in Ambrosian rite. In this rite this is the documented NORMAL way to thurible since more that thousand years. Happy to realize that the Hamil Camel skating figure has been copied from this. .
