Well Ann and other haters of Nina's version; as the writer I was fortunate enough to have terrific singers interpret my song; Marlene Dietrich, Frank Sinatra - even Percy Faith instrumentally. But this is my favourite cover; Nina gives my lyric an entire new meaning.

This is a wonderful song in and of itself. The lyrics are very thought provoking - the melody although a bit predictable is catchy. And you know what else? I don't just love Nina Simone - I ADORE her. Some of her numbers are pure genius. But something's very wrong here - she is not herself and this is a very indulgent mess.

Nina Simone has gone to the moon. Damn. I LOVE this lady but this is terrible. Was she ill or on medication when she did this? Even the piano playing is sophomoric and predictable - I could play it with one hand behind my back and I'm very out of practice.
Damn. Again - I LOVE this lady - some of her songs are pure genius. This makes me giggle but in a very sad way.

Sorry!! but she murders this, if you want class listen to her take of Mr Bojangles.
