East Anglia was once rich in branch lines, providing a service to ports, villages and towns.

The Beeching Plan swept away many of these lines, leaving little sign that they had ever existed.

  • Great to see pics of Melton Constable. I assumed from the railway map that it was the size of Crewe or Swindon, but it barely exists as a town. I do recall the M&GN in North Walsham; there used to be workings between the stations via Antingham Road Junction which was next to my Gt Grandmother's House.

  • Its the famous Upwell Tramway!

  • like that, give me more please.

  • Get it, it is well worth it, I live over here in Greece, and Father Christmas brought it to me (yes, it WAS him, and not my wife LOL). Excellent DVD, and if like me, you lived near one of the stations / lines, it is all the more poignant, reflecting on a lost, gentler time. I lived near and rode many times on that "fruit line" as we called it. Happy days!

  • Fascinating, if tantalising clip! I remember looking at Melton Constable on the Ordnance Survey map. As the BR map showed it was the meeting point of 4 lines I was sure it must have been a major town, so I was very surprised to find that apart from the station there was almost nothing there at all!

  • Midland & Great Northern Railway (M&GN) also known by its passengers and freight customers as the Muddle & Get Nowhere!

  • Might have to buy that dvd for xmas

  • Melton constable at the start i see
