Don't count your chickens before they're hatched.
《諺》卵がかえらぬうちからひなの勘定をするな。/取らぬタヌキの皮算用。/不確実なことを当てにしてはいけない。◆似たような西洋のことわざはたくさんあるが、日本のこ­とわざに一番近いのは、Catch your bear before you sell its skin.(クマの毛皮を売る前にクマを捕まえよ)やFirst catch your hare〔then cook him〕.(まずウサギを捕まえてから〔料理はその後〕。)などがある。また、ストレートにNever spend your money before you have it.(まだ手に入れてもいない金を当てにするな)とも言う。
捕らぬたぬきの皮算用。
