International China Concern operates in three cities in China and relies on volunteers coming from many countries for periods of a few months to several years to work with the children in its care. These volunteers bring their skills as therapists, special educators, medical practitioners and child care workers and put them to practical use. They also demonstrate strong models of care to local staff.
Profiled here are Ron and Sue Burns, a couple from Queensland, Australia, who have lived and worked in Hengyang, Hunan Province for more than four years, making a difference in the lives of the young children who have been abandoned by their families because of disabilities.
