Ever wonder how humans think? If it's in language form, what kind of language do we think in? For a person (like me) who speaks more than 4 languages, and is exposed to more than 5 dialects, language has become a confusion in my mind. Sometimes I caught myself speaking to myself in another language which is not my mother tongue.
This film is trying to explore how a person thinks. It's just a possibility from my point of view, that we think:
- in multiple languages (if one speaks more than one language)
- of more than one thing at a time, which leads to more and more questions and thoughts, a lot of times we even stray off the tracks
In this film, I've used whispering as the narration, firstly because I was trying to use one of Jean-Luc Godard's techniques in his many films; second, I think that the 'whispering technique' can bring audiences closer (not practically) as one will always lean forward to listen more intently when another person is whispering.
"I'm afraid that if you look at a thing long enough, it loses all of its meaning." Andy Warhol
There's this one time I was staring at a random English word without thinking, after a while, my vision played with me. The english word suddenly looked unfamiliar and strange, and meaningless. It looked like a random combination of alphabets and it didn't really make any sense. I suddenly had a whole new perception on things like words and languages. But my feelings about them are so abstract I don't even know where to begin, or how to explain. By trying to involve the audience in this experience I once had, from a question of "What are words?" leads to deeper questions that tackles with God, life and death.
Well Done. I'm a psychology student, and a film fan, and your video is pleasing on both planes.
