its quite good that guys are trying to tell that there is not only asterisk, but few other opensource PBX but asterisk has quite good docs and support base and I would suggest starters to start from it cause other PBX are based on asterisk and if u'll get onto it it would be much easier for u to learn other PBX software
I downloaded the latest Asterisknow and the install looks nothing like this, I don't get a ip address shown to point the web browser, I try to log into the server it won't let me use the password i entered during setup!! lots of googling later i found the username to be freepbx and password to be fpbx...WTF!!?? No setup page just a bunch of options. FUCK this shit this is why i use windows because as fucked up as it is at then end of the day shit works on it and its easy to use
i have installed sipfoundry they have one of fastest growing community that could become the first choice for many of us, sipfoundry supports pure sip with voice-mail IVR, and user portal and minimum features for such small office and it claims to handle over 500 concurrent active sip session. anyway asterisk without sip proxy can only have 50 concurrent session
which Sipfoundry application did you download ? was it SIPX ?It would be a great idea for a video of it to be produced especially with its native backup server setup facility
