This image shows the famous Paddle Steamer Waverley on a day trip from London Tower Pier to Southend, via Tilbury, and on to the River Medway. This sequence was shot when we had landed at Southend at lunchtime, before we headed off down the pier for some fish & chips on the seafront. Waverley was off for a three hour trip up the Medway, before returning to take us back to London. For more information on this steamer and other pleasure steamers of the 19th and 20th centuries see my website Paddle Steamer Picture Gallery at http://freespace.virgin.net/tom.lee/. It has been going for 10 years today! Thanks for viewing it. Tom Lee.
