@l337R4mes And actually their are situations that would have you believe Arthas was fighting to keep his personality alive, for instance their is a quest that Tirion Fordring gives you the idea that nothing is left of Arthas but he had hope that their was something left. Also if you got a shadowmourne and killed LK with it on 25man if you give Jaina her locket that kind of proves Arthas was still in there.

@l337R4mes ive played WC3 and I've read all the books and read every quest. Arthas didnt kill the mercenaries because he was mad he betrayed them because if his soilders knew that he was the one that burned down the ships they wouldnt be to happy with him. And I take back what I said about the king bit because Arthas did what he thought was right. And Arthas did have partial control as explained in an interview with Crygil that Arthas is trying to surpress Nerz'huls personality.

@Paladinslord Play WC3. You are right about the mercenaries, and stratholme, although i guess there was not really anything else to do with strat, but his actions had nothing to do with him wanting to be king.

The reason he betrays the mercenaries, is because he is blinded by anger and revenge, and wants to kill Mal'Ganis (a dreadlord). When he picks up frostmourne, the lich king takes over his soul, and he has no "control" over himself anymore.

Arthas voice acting is just crappy here compared to the one who did it in WC3. Also, this is just soooo lore breaking compared to WC3, where the lore was actually brilliant. WoW has really ruined a lot since WC3, but at least they are trying to "fix" it with cata.
