On October 1. 2007... Saco Island LLC closed on the 14 acre Factory Island. On the island is my home, Island Terrace Condos (islandterrace.info) and also some commercial real estate in one mill that was renovated in the late 80's. The rest of the island remained a shambles. The mill I live in was built in 1831 and was the site of Maine's first organized labor stoppage. The largest building on the island runs parallel to my building and is called mill #4. As far as I know it was built in 1880. Behind it is the train station for Amtrak's Downeaster with service to Boston (and beyond) and Portland. Where the river meets main street is a small mill that will be converted into a brew pub, commercial space and a brew pub. More on the project is available at http://www.islandpoint.com/

  • nice zoom what kind of camera are you using

  • When I shot this I was using a Canon Zr90...CCD burned out and now I use a ZR 950, with a 48x zoom! Its great!

  • Hope you have got somewhere else to live now.?

And keep your misses away from bridges..... please;)

    Good vid.

  • Hahah, its become our inside joke, we want to make a children's book called "If I Jumped From Here..." :) The building I am in was updated in 1988. There are some structural issues that we have to address, but its inhabited and safe. The developer went bankrupt and the rest of the island remained in disrepair. The new developer bought the other mills and is refurbishing them. Asides from the noise from construction there should be no problems staying put :)
