@dvdv7777 I would think then the speed problem would be more attributed to graphics ram speed than lack of power on the part of the gpu. Also the CPU is calculating the vertices correct? So then there is the problem of moving data back and forth across the system buss right?

@Polybun It is not really faster. It shares scalability problems with voxels. On top of that,the particles are rendered using pairs of triangles forming quads, these quads are then always oriented towards the screen. One significant problem is that the quads all have unique vertices, and cannot be reused, so the GPU's vertex cache is actually not used at all. And it shows: this demo is VERY slow on most cards.

This video is probably one of the most inspiring pieces of digital artwork I've seen in a long time. Beautiful stuff, truly amazing.
