@maradona87 yeap, you need a soundcard with preamp or external preamp as demonstrated in this vid.

Depending your interface and how you want to use it. I have it chained to the comp16 and then into the eq3b all with quarter inch to xlr mogami (balanced) cables. The cable from the eq3b then goes quarter inch into my digi002 and therefore the pre on the interface is bypassed... Leave it all the way turned off on you interface. For best warmth use %25 drive and %60 gain!!!

No, First Check your cables, then your ins and outs, Then try a "Impedance matching transformer- Hi to Lo" I think it's like $20 at radio shack
Then if all this fails then you should either get a pre-amp or a new soundcard. Do not rely on cable to change from XLR to 1/4 inch, use the Impedance Matching transformer for this.
