Well said, I have a similar problem where many people accept that i'm sick but they can't see how sick I really am becauase i've made an art out of masking my symptoms. And I still can't help but feel like a wuss sometimes when I have to turn down stuff like going camping, traveling, whatever it happens to be. They can't understand that to much exertion destroys me. BTW, I think you speak very clearly, must be your making up for the numbness.

so many of us are masters of hiding our illness from others (Carey is the grand master of them all in this respect!) i have moments when i sound better and moments when i sound like an alcoholic. i had one moment when i tried to order a chai latte and the girl behind the counter couldn't understand me. that was frustrating and embarrassing.

I can't believe ur dad. So sorry kiddo. I got the same crap. I got so sick of hearing I feel bad cuz I ate something wrong...did this or I didn't do that. This shit is not my fault. No one ask for this. Maybe I wouldn't believe in chronic Lyme either.....if I didn't have it. Don't worry about anyone else.........you prolly don't have the energy to keep the social schedule you use to... keep your strength for fighting for ur health. I'm sending you lots of love.

Some friends are too selfish to care, others don't know what to say or fear their own mortality. All are self-centered. If they were around one of them would inevitably take on the role of the martyr, the "Look how devastated I am by my friend's Lyme disease " role. That is the worst kind. I hate it when people play the martyr role in someone else's trial. How insulting to the real victim. You are an awesome person and your accomplishments put me to shame during this illness.

I have Lyme and my two-year-old had leukemia 12 years ago. Your dad obviously did not do his homework. Having now gone through both, I can tell you that the concepts in cancer can scoot right over into Lyme. Childhood cancer is treated for 2 to 3 additional years after remission because cancer cells hide. Lyme hides too. I guess we can give your dad credit for raising a highly intelligent girl though. Poor man just is too lazy to do his own research. Maybe he has Lyme?

I am soooooo lucky that my family gets it and are supportive otherwise I can tell you I would not be here.

Thankfully you have a wife that understands and is there for you.

Just keep trying to explain it to him and just worry about yourself if he asks for something you can't do.
