In 1979 Presidential candidate Ross Perot had the opportunity to purchase Microsoft for $6 million but confusion over the price brought the deal to an end.

In 1867 Canada had the opportunity to purchase Alaska and passed so the US purchased it for $7.2 million instead.

Steve Jobs and Steve Wazniak went to Atari and offered their new personal computer design in exchange for employment. Atari turned them down because they didn't have enough education. So the two of them started Apple Computers instead.

M&Ms were offered product placement in the movie E.T. but passed. Reese's Pieces took the deal and tripled there sales overnight.
