  • Only Jazz players can sound like they're playing totally off key, yet make it sound awesome. It's like they take those lemon notes and make lemonade out of it

  • Happy Birthday Thelonious!!

  • I really do love that one! It's like swimming around an idea, never telling what you basically want to say... nevertheless leaving in your audience's heart the sweet taste of a shivering sky...

  • i always listen to this when i am getting inspired to sing or be creative..etc. one of my fav. jazz pieces that never fails to put me in a great mood! he had inspiration so original that he tapped into..wish he was still here...would love to sing with him!...

  • It's more than jazz, transcends soul -- his music is in a category of its own.

  • Nothing like a little organized dissonance.

  • @TinFood What a great line!

  • I can not stop watching it!

  • @JuliusCzar0 : No, Les Dawson was the greatest, Monk only ever came second!

  • @goe234 if you slow down the song and listen at 0.34 what he does is play 2 keys one after the other in very very quick succession to create the pitch bend effect. Effin amazing!

  • The Monk is the master of dissonance and syncopation.
