I could be wrong but i think the Hit Hat has 2 hihats overlapped. One closed (B) with its lip Over the operated hihat (A). This results in the Opening of the hihat (A) hitting the second (B) when he lifts his foot off the pedal.
Hence a second beat on the "upstroke" this essentially doubles his 8th notes giving 16th notes.....
and a damn good trick if you ask me.......

How its possible to play hihat so fast using leg? He play 32nd notes betwen his right hand and left foot. Awsome
