to me, it's more like the human kind has forgotten about his past, we are considering ourselves as seperate from nature. when the officer let the deer smell his hand, he remembers. the deer forgives him, but pays the ultimate sacrifice to show the officer what he's lost, and that things have to change. he found it, and lost it again.

I really really like this. For me the deer represent the nature, and when they see face to face they see that they notice that they are a part of the same, after that the deer go to the middle of the road and watch the police as saying "will you let me die again?", the impotence face of the police seeing how disappears that what is in our roots is pretty much the way I feel sometimes.
