This documentary considers the historical presence of the Church in Syria - reflected in such sites as the place where Elijah is said to have ascended to heaven - and the manner in which these roots are lived out in the present day Church. The program considers, through interviews with personalities such as Archbishop George Battikha (Patriarchal Vicar of the Greek-Melkite Catholic Patriarchate of Damascus), the difficulties not only in living in a Muslim society but also the challenges faced by the Christian communities to overcome their differences as they work towards unity. The program touches on the signs of hope as well, for example, the young people and, despite the difficulties of living in a Muslim society, the growth of new vocations among the young.
