The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) is working to help keep juvenile Chinook salmon and steelhead on course as they migrate to the Pacific Ocean. A prototype of a non-physical barrier that is made up of lights and bubbles to help divert salmon and keep them on the path to the sea during migration is shown in green. The barrier is turned on (green) and a tracked fish appears to be successfully diverted by the non-physical barrier. . The colored spheres illustrate the hydrophones listening to the tagged fish, detecting passage. Preliminary results show the new non-physical barrier is working. How do we know this is true? By observing fish behavior in real-time using fish tagged and tracked with HTIs Model 795Lm Acoustic Tags.
