Khmer people wear Khmer Yant Mant Akam to protect themselves unlike the westerner wearing Yant (Tattoo) for decoration.
Most of Young Khmer people today don't like to have Sak Yant (Tattoo) on their bodies anymore. They like to have Yant written on silver or gold ID or on Katha instead. Katha is Khmer Amulet written in Mant Akam with Khmer Aksar Moul to wear as necklaces to protect them. Some prefer to have Yant written on silver or gold belt.
Khmer people who very fondly believe in Mant Akam Katha must offering Sacred Bochea (Baisei) to Preah Barmei.

  • So, your mom does not know anything about the value of Khmer Sak Yant. Yants were not created for bad people. Yants were created for protection, for people to behave good.

  • I have a Cambodian necklace that read like this......Sa-took Sa-took sompeas ach chrook oy ban chrern....Saaaaaaaaaaaahh--tooook !!!!

  • She's referring to tattoos in general. But sak yant is a different story. Sak yant is meant for protection. A lot of the old folks have them, especially the ones that went to war. I bet she wouldn't mind if u got a sak yant. If she did then she is a hyprocrite b/c sak yant is the same thing she prays and give food offerings to (they are usually placed behind the buddha).
