kea parrots ripping the spare tyre cover of 4x4 at franz joseph glacier new zealand on our hliday.NOT our 4x4....we saw the people take pictures of the parrots as they landed on the car.then they walked off....they owned the car...........we did nothing,and when i sat the birds came over ,so all up to them and i was lucky to have been involved....thanks to john for telling us what time to see them.7.00am.worth it though we sat up there for 2 hrs with them .we later saw the car in franz joseph and the tyre cover was all gaffer taped up.so funny.checkout my other videos

@BloodyBay: Maybe Kea were in NZ long before humans arrived and live in an environment that is harsh and marginal for human agriculture/habitation. Exploration behaviour is possibly one reason this species can survive in such harsh environments. Moreover, the "trouble making" birds are probably juveniles as adults generally have their time taken up looking after nestlings during the summer...

Kea are an endangered species and their numbers could be as low as 1000 birds left in the wild .
