The Boy from Oz Quiet Please, There's A Lady on The Stage
Isabel Keating as Judy Garland 3
Peter Allen Hugh Jackman Broadway

Lyrics:
Quiet please, there's a lady on stage.
She may not be the latest rage,
But she's singing, and she means it.
And she deserves a little silence.

Quiet please, there's a woman up there,
And she's been honest through her songs
Long before your consciousness was raised.
Now doesn't that deserve a little praise.

So put your hands together, help her along,
All that's left of the singers, all that's left of the song.
Stand for the ovation,
And give her one last celebration.

Quiet please, there's a person up there,
Who's singing of the sins that none of us could bear
To hear for ourselves,
Now give her your respect if nothing else.

So put your hands together, help her along,
All that's left of the singers, all that's left of the song.
Rise to the occasion,
And give her one last celebration.

Quiet please, there's a lady on stage.
Conductor, turn the final page.
When it's over, we can all go home.
She lives on on the stage alone.

So put your hands together, help her along,
All that's left of the singers, all that's left of the song.
Stand for the ovation,
And give her one last celebration.

Put your hands together, help her along,
Let's just stay here all night; let's sing every song.
Won't you rise, rise to the occasion,
Yes, give her, one last, just one last celebration.

(repeat and fade)

  • I love the music, but when are wegoing tro SEE this show in Britain?!!!

  • its so scary... she moves in judy's way ^^

  • Keating.. stupid question perhaps butis she related to Ronan Keating in any way? Awesome show anyway.=)

  • Love Peter, Judy, Hugh, & Isabel, they are all great.

As has been noted elsewhere, "Quiet Please . . ." was written by Peter Allen and his actual inspiration was Julie Wilson, whom he very much loved, and while attending one of her performances, was disturbed by the people talking at a nearby table. Peter himself told the story of writing a note

to the rude patrons, it read: "Quiet please, there's a lady on stage."

The song worked nicely in the context of the show as a tribute to Judy.

  • Very moving song and performance by Hugh.......Isabel was AWESOME as Judy Garland!

  • love judy garland, her voice brings tears to my eyes every time i hear her sing.

  • The sad part is Judy was such a great star and never felt it or knew how much the world misses her.

Now Peter left us and it seems so sad to think we have lost two great talents.

But they are remembered by those of us who loved them and miss them.

Seems unfair that they both left to soon for them to know how much they meant to all of us.

  • Anne is playing Judy in a movie to come in 2011.
