The 15-year-old boy who had both legs amputated just four months ago is back kicking a football, after putting up an inspirational fight on the road to recovery.
Newry lad Ryan Cinnamond was given just a 10% chance of survival after his operation but, with the help of his new prosthetic legs, he is now more determined than ever not to let anything hold him back.
"You can't sit in the corner and more or less cry about it," straight-talking Ryan told UTV.
"Coping's hard but, if you keep a positive head, you'll get better. You just move on. You adapt to it."
Ryan needed the life-changing surgery as a result of suffering an aneurysm, leaving doctors with no choice but to amputate both the talented young footballer's legs in a last-ditch effort to save his life.
Of waking up in intensive care to the news, Ryan said: "Most people would think that you'd either be crying or shocked or mad ... but I was just staring. I couldn't believe it."
While the pragmatic teenager admits "everyone has their good days and bad days", he feels very lucky to be alive and has even refused to repeat his fifth year at school as he works towards his GCSEs.
Like many young people, Ryan may not know yet what he wants to do in the future - "something with sport or computers" - but he is certainly focused on staying positive.
In a message to anyone struggling to cope, the teen simply said: "Don't give in - there's people out there that'll help."
