Used my Canon Digital Rebel XT and 17-40 F/4L to make a time lapse of me pulling the engine out of my car. A TI-89 graphing calculator is acting as an intervalometer using a data cable and a small piece of code. Apologies for the abrubt ending. The camera ran out of batteries. I guess 3000+ exposures on a single charge will do that. :P

Some stats/info:

Set to 1 exposure every 3 seconds. 3124 exposures, played back at 15fps

Camera in manual mode: 0.5sec shutter, 17mm, F/6.3, ISO100

Even though, mathematically, this should only be about 3 hours of real time, the video represents about 5 hours of elapsed time. The timer function on the calculator didn't like running continuously for that long.

Song is Black Betty by Spiderbait.

Thanks to Matt Coneybeare for his TI89 intervalometer code: http://code.coneybeare.net/make-a-time-lapse-movie-using-a-ti89-calculat

  • Cooool video dawg. But isn't this Volvo 244?

  • @kaukamela No. 244 = 240 sedan with four doors. 242 = 240 sedan with two doors.

  • this is the t5 motor correct? not the tranny. i want to put a t5 in my 240 and its literally impossible to find out what tranny will bolt up to make the motor rwd. What tranny did u use

  • @bDowney8 Yes, this a 5 cylinder turbo engine (T5), mated to a Tremec T5 transmission (the cause of some confusion, I'm sure).

An M90 transmission will bolt on.

  • the oil spill at 1:19 heh...

  • Coolant.

  • Hey mate - I think you have to toggle an option to make this available on mobile (or so my Android phone tells me) - you may want to look into that.

  • Niice !!!

  • What a sleeper you devil you!

Grew up in Volvos, 15 in my family starting with a '67 144S

I went the VW/SAAB/BMW route that's all I've ever owned after my first car, a 142E.

    Peace.

  • @basketofkittens Yup i know that. LOlolo i must've been really sleepy or something when i commented that beacause didn't even pay attention for that there is only 2 doors. Sorry mate my bad :D

  • Thats the best part about the late '70 early '80, that you can unbolt the intire front... i have a late '80 model, and the front is welted together, so it is a litle mor tricky to get the engin out, but after a few times doing this, you'l get the rutine down. i realy like your 240, '78 model? my dad had an '79 with round headlights...

  • volvo 242 was my first car and still is VOLVO 4 LIFE!

  • Man, I have respect for you..nice job end nice slipeer
