The Brazilian badlands, April 1910. Tonho is ordered by his father to avenge the death of his older brother. The young man knows that if he commits this crime, his life will be divided in two: the 20 years he has already lived and the few days he has left to live, before the other family avenges their son's death. He is torn between fulfilling his ancestral duty and rebelling against it, urged by his younger brother Pacu. That's when a tiny traveling circus passes through the vast badlands where Tonho's family lives (IMDb).

..based on Ismail Kadare's novel, with the same title 'broken april'(1987)..Ismail Kadare is the greatest albanian author and has won many awards..he's been also several times candidate for nobel prize!!!! i've read his novels and romans and i just want to say he's amazing!!!

It's one of the most incredible movies I've ever seen.  I watched it years ago and it still sticks with me - haunts me - all the time. It's a painfully beautiful movie that will stay with you forever. Watch it, but not when you're in the mood for something light and airy.
