Athlete: A person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina. Especially when performed in a competitive context. from the greek athlein: to contend and athlon: prize
Sport: all forms of physical activity which, through casual or organised participation, aim to use, maintain or improve physical fitness and provide entertainment to participants.... that should clear it all up eh!?

@2Good2BeTrue45 it is athletic. fishing is a sport, but not athletic; the words are neither mutually exclusive nor interchangeable

@albertVV1 I agree coming out at half time and cheering on another team is not a sport. But.. that isn't what competitive cheering is. What you think cheerleading is is a misconception. Some schools only have that kind of cheerleading, and i do not think that is a sport but competitive cheerleading is a completley diffrent thing!

@xXSmoothxCriminalXx I used to get angry to...but then i understood, we are NOT athletes, we are ballet dancers, we are artists, yes we train as hard as athletes, but I would hate being compared to a football player...I do like people to understand ballet dancers are as strong as many athletes, sometimes even stronger, but i like being called an artist more than an athlete.
Dancing is not a sport it is an art. That doesn't mean it isn't hard and it does't belittle it. Just because something is difficult doesn't mean it is a sport. Working construction can be grueling and challenging, but I doubt you would call them athletes.
Dancing and cheerleading are in the same boat. Are they physically challenging? Yes, much more than say golf. However, they are't inherently competitive. People have had to think up ways to make them competitive, thus they aren't sports.

Being an athlete and playing a sport are completly different things. This video isn't try to prove dancing a sport. It's trying to prove dancers can be athletes. Just sayin.
