Large American alligator at feeding time in the Louisiana Swamp exhibit at Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, Louisiana. When he first arrived at the zoo, he was 11' 7" long and has since grown to 12' 4" and about 1,000 lbs. The record alligator was over 19' long from Vermillion Parish in southwest Louisiana over 100 years ago but today it's rare to see one over 14 feet. Due to his size, he has his own exhibit since he would make a snack of the other alligators in the main exhibit.
Wow, this is great.
But it makes me a little sad because it reminds me of Steve Irwin.
When visitors see scenes like this, they forget how dangerous working with animals can be.
