La Costa
Get on My Love Train No. 3, 1976
Writers: Noro Wilson, Chip Taylor

Born La Costa Tucker on April 6, 1951 in Seminole, Texas, La Costa moved around frequently, as her father Beau Tucker was a construction worker. Beau Tucker had two daughters, La Costa and younger sister Tanya Tucker. The two worked together as members of the Country Westeners in Phoenix during the 1960s. La Costa won her first talent contest at age four. In-between entering beauty pageants and talent shows, she performed with Tanya. Shortly afterwards, La Costa cast her show biz ambitions to the side in favor of a career in medicine and only returned to music in 1972 after Tanya had hit the big time.

La Costa graduated from Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona and began working as a medical records technician as she sang in clubs and became Miss Country Music, Phoenix. Tucker worked local clubs with her back-up group, The Stone Bridge Band, and La Costa began to build her career in music. At this time Tanya had made an impact on the Country music scene and was generating chart activity. Beau, who acted as her manager, helped La Costa secure a recording contract with Capitol Records in 1974.

Her first chart record was I Wanna Get To You, which reached the Top 25. However, it was her follow-up single, Get On My Love Train, that solidified her success in the country music arena. The song reached No. 3 on the Billboard charts. In 1975, she charted with the Top 10, He Took Me For a Ride. However, Get on my Love Train was La Costas biggest hit during her six years (1974 1980) on Capitol.

  • Great to hear this song again, too bad LaCosta didn't have as many hits as Tanya...she's just as good! However, I don't agree with those who put down Tanya. Tanya is a country icon and LaCosta has her place there too. It's all great classic country that we must treasure as they don't make it like that anymore.

  • don,t she sounds like tanya?

  • Tanya Tucker = no ethics or integrity. LaCosta = oosing ethics and integrity. I'm just saying compromising your self takes away from your accomplishments in my openion.

  • @amanda3685 This song is available on Amazon.com

  • Do the names Tommy Cash or Stella Parton sound familiar to anyone? How about Peggy Sue? (Hint:: Like Crystal Gayle, she's Loretta Lynn's sister )

  • she was very good great voice

  • What a sweet and pure voice this girl has. It's a shame she couldn't have shared some of the limelight that her sister had. I love Tanya's music, but LaCosta had a more soothing voice.

  • Both this song and "He took me for a ride" are available on Amazon as MP3 downloads. Unfortunately, they want $100 for the CD.

  • what a good looking woman and voice!! takes me back to germany and in the air force sometime in 1974

  • If I could I'd buy her CD in a second.
