This is a video interpretation of Daniel Lanois' song The Maker. I first heard it when I watched Slingblade for the first time years ago, but didn't really take anything from it. But when I heard Dave Matthews' cover recently, it hit me... to me, it's a song about faith. This is my third revision of this, and hopefully my last.
Let me know what you think. :o)

Here's the lyrics:

The Maker
(Daniel Lanois)

Oh, oh deep water,
black and cold like the night
I stand with arms wide open
I've run a twisted mile
I'm a stranger
in the eyes of the Maker
And I could not see
for the fog in my eyes
I could not feel
for the fear in my life

From across the great divide
In the distance I saw a light
John Baptist walking to me
with the Maker
My body is bent and broken
by long and dangerous sleep
I can't work the fields of Abraham
and turn my head away
I'm not a stranger
in the hands of the Maker

Brother John, have you seen
the homeless daughters
Standing there with broken wings
I have seen the flaming sword
There over east of Eden
Burning in the eyes of the Maker
Burning in the eyes of the Maker
Burning in the eyes of the Maker

Oh, river rise from your sleep
Oh, river rise from your sleep
Oh, river rise from your sleep

  • Excellent! I always liked this song, but your compilation has brought out so much more meaning for me.

  • @babooshkalika I'm glad that it helped you out. :) There's a quote I read somewhere, from a guy named Peter Kreeft, that really applies to what I got from this song, at least the part towards the end: "The Cross is God’s sword, held at the hilt by the hand of Heaven and plunged into the world, not to take our blood but to give us His."
