Duxbury field hockey fights back, gains tie

When Jen Natale scored with 7:20 left to put the Hanover High School field hockey team on top, 2-1, it looked like there may finally be a clear frontrunner in the contentious Patriot League stand ings on Thursday.
Senior Jill Caramello and her Green Dragons teammates didn't see it that way for a second. At least for no more than 48 of them.
Caramello scored from 18 yards out, slapping a hard-hit shot off a pass by classmate Erin Levesque during a corner with 6:32 remaining to tie the game at its final score, 2-2., behind Duxbury Free Library.
"We stayed calm; we didn't get dis couraged," Caramello said. "We knew we'd get another goal. It wasn't the end of the game. It (turned out being) one of the best games we've played."
While salvaging a tie instead of los ing a game in which it led at halftime, 1-0, was welcomed by Duxbury, the draw only further complicated the race for the league title. With Hingham's 2- 0 victory over Scituate, the Patriot League now features three teams un defeated in league play: Hanover (6-0- 2), Hingham (6-0-2) and the Dragons (4-0-3), who trail slightly due to a 1-1 tie to Pembroke Tuesday and a pair of postponements.
"It's getting intense -- it's fun," Caramello said.
"But enough of tying. We want to win next time, not tie."
