Our side line coverage of the Saturday night united football league showdown between the California Redwoods and New York Sentinels.
"The United Football League's California Redwoods won their home opener at AT&T Park with a 24-7 victory over the New York Sentinels. The Redwoods (1-1) relied on their strong ground game, led by running back Cory Ross, and the defense held the Sentinels (0-2) to just 188 total yards.
Running backs Cory Ross and John David Washington (son of actor, Denzel Washington) each chipped in with touchdown runs in the second half, as the Redwoods used their ground game to eat the clock and keep the ball out of Gray's hands.
Ross finished the game with 121 rushing yards on 22 carries, and former Oakland Raider, wide receiver Doug Gabriel, led the team with 6 catches for 70 yards.
The Redwoods' next test will be against the undefeated Florida Tuskers, Thursday in Orlando. The game starts at 4:00 Pacific Time, and will be televised on the Versus network."(Michael Eng, Examiner.com, http://www.examiner.com/x-23338-SF-Sports-Photography-Examiner)
