A companion piece to his 2004 book, Post-Soul Nation, author (and Voice contributor) Nelson George's documentary Smart Black People reunites some of the subjects of a generation-defining photograph to document the impact of the "New Black Aesthetic" that arose in the 1980s in arts, criticism, and entrepreneurship. Sixty minutes of panel discussion might peeve if George's panelists - including Russell Simmons, Trey Ellis, and Voice critic Greg Tate - weren't so darn pithy, engaging, and, well, smart.

  • @scribegangman are you the stupid

  • @scribegangman like u racist nazi mother fucker

  • So everyone went from having jobs under Carter to smoking crack under Reagan?

    Another KKKonspiracy theory

  • hahahahahahaha smart blaCKS DONT EXIST they are just predending.

fiddy got shot NINE times and hes still standing!

  • I remember when Carter was in office, inflation was in double digits and our foreign policy was weak. Carter had to call in Kissinger (a Nixon throw-back) to put us back on a track that was close to what Americans were used to.

Reagan had balls. He created jobs, not crack. Reagan is dead and gone and people still hit the pipe. Are we to blame Obama for that? Absolutely not. Drugs exist because there is a demand for them and not the other way around. Fools just like to question logic.

  • I remember that MLK Jr. was a registered Republican.

I remember that house and senate republicans over-whelmingly passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Voter Rights Act of 1965.

Al Gore's daddy voted against both as a Senator. So did Sen. Byrd from W. VA.

I quote the Who: "We Won't Get Fooled Again."

Christian Conservatives in the 1960's that were registered Republicans marched on Selma and Jacksonville and on Peach Tree Street.

That was what I call shining light.

  • haha....no time for this shyt ...so shut yo white faggot ass....

  • BLACK POWER!!!!
