70-year-old Mesa resident, Penny Strong, defeated thyroid cancer in 2009 and feels ready to make her 41st trip to Nepal in late November. Strong runs Pennwood Charitable Foundation, a foundation dedicated to helping people in Nepal. She started Pennwood with her late husband Woody over 20 years ago. Strong's foundation has built nine schools in remote areas, three health posts and 25-bed-hospital in Kathmandu. The Dalai Lama has even personally thanked Strong for her work in Nepal.
