I am very confused why Beau Bridges dumped soup on the servant's head. But you sure can tell that Lee Grant is Dinah Manoff's mother.

@bsjt: "The Landlord" is on DVD, but you have to order it online, because it's one of those cheap OnDemand DVD from MGM. Criterion Collection might put out a better version.

He's so right. Nigger means "ignorant person." It has nothing to do with African-Americans.

Amazing film. It's so like both Ashby's work and Bill Gunn's (including his unreleased first film "Stop") that I can't tell where one of them stops as director and the other begins as screenwriter. No DVD release yet either?

I saw this movie when I was 17 in SF when it first came out. I thought it was far out! In 78 I moved to Brooklyn and lived there 13 years. Park Slope was pretty upscale by then.
"NANPC" lol I love the way his mother she says "he called us N**gers!" Though it makes me cringe something awful..lol
