This video demonstrates how to bleed a radiator, in order to release built up air and solve heating problems such as a 'gurgling' sound and cold radiator tops.
"Once air has been bled from a radiator, if system pressure is sufficient, water will start to show & you should close the valve. The likely reason for no water being seen at the top radiator was that the system pressure had been lowered so there was no high pressure water in that radiator. You could try adding more water to the system."
