"Susanna" by director Ho Meng-Hua (1929-2009)

Ho Meng-hua was one of Shaw Brothers' most versatile directors. He started working for the studio in 1958, making mostly contemporary dramas. In the mid to late 60s, he helmed the four-film adaptation of "Journey to the West" and proved himself adept at the wuxia genre. Continuing to roll with the times, he had no problem adapting to the exploitation trends of the 70s. Ho left Shaw Brothers after his last film in 1980 and retired shortly thereafter. Here is a scene from his 1967 melodrama "Susanna", which won the best film award at the 14th Asian Film Festival. Li Ching plays a young student suffering from brain cancer, who is trying to make up for her earlier selfish ways.

Sorry, I don't know if you can watch this online. You can always buy the VCD. The quality is not as good, but VCDs aren't region-coded. BTW, all-region players are pretty cheap. It's a good investment if you like Chinese movies.
